A recent analysis of the 2021 census reveals a persistent crisis in Canada’s labour market, where racialized immigrant women face significant barriers despite comprising 36% of all immigrants. These women encounter a triple disadvantage based on race, immigrant status, and gender, resulting in the lowest labour force participation rate (77%) and highest unemployment rate (12%) among all immigrant groups. Even with a university education, they earn 28% less than their male counterparts and 32% less than non-racialized Canadian-born women, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive policy reform.
