A recent Leger poll for the Association of Canadian Studies reveals that 58% of Canadians still believe immigration levels are “too high,” even after Prime Minister Trudeau’s announcement to reduce annual targets from 500,000 to 395,000 for 2025-2027. The sentiment spans across major provinces, with Alberta leading at 61%, followed by Ontario at 59%. Notably, even 49% of newcomers share this concern, although 70% of respondents still view Canada as a “nation of immigrants,” creating what ACS president Jack Jedwab calls a “paradox” in public opinion.
