Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced an update to its refugee documentation system. As of March 25, 2025, the new Refugee Protection Identity Document (RPID) has officially replaced the previous Refugee Protection Claimant Document (RPCD). This enhanced bilingual document, valid for six years, eliminates gender identifiers and eligibility decisions, focusing solely on identification purposes. While existing RPCDs remain valid until expiration, all renewals will now receive the updated RPID format. These improvements demonstrate Canada’s ongoing dedication to providing efficient and dignified services to refugee protection claimants while maintaining the integrity of the immigration system.
