Recent data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) reveals a gradual return to in-person citizenship ceremonies, with over 40% of 2024 face-to-face ceremonies. However, virtual ceremonies continue to be the primary method, accommodating more participants per session. Despite recommendations for prioritizing in-person events for their role in immigrant integration, virtual ceremonies remain dominant, averaging 224 sessions monthly compared to 50 in-person events, with virtual ceremonies hosting an average of 135 participants versus 79 for in-person gatherings. IRCC officials emphasize that the current hybrid approach allows for maximum flexibility while maintaining the solemnity and importance of this crucial milestone in the immigration journey.
