Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has implemented a significant policy adjustment affecting Yukon’s immigration framework. As announced by Premier Ranj Pillai, the territory’s nominee allocation for 2025 has been reduced by 50 percent, establishing a new threshold of 215 positions. Consequently, the Yukon Nominee Program’s application intake, previously scheduled for January 29, has been temporarily suspended. The program is undertaking necessary modifications to align with updated federal guidelines, which stipulate that 75 percent of nominations must be allocated to temporary residents currently residing in Canada. Furthermore, applications from rural communities will be suspended after January 22, allowing officials to implement a strategic approach to position allocation.
