The Federal Government of Canada has submitted a funding request of $411 million to support the expansion of refugee healthcare services. This significant increase, representing a sevenfold growth over eight years, reflects the rising number of individuals seeking asylum in Canada. The Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), which facilitates essential healthcare access for refugees and asylum seekers before their eligibility for provincial or territorial healthcare coverage, has experienced an increase in annual expenditure from $60 million in 2016 to the current projected amount. This expansion in funding requirements aligns with the increasing global migration patterns and Canada’s established position as a destination for individuals seeking protection.
