On April 24, 2025, the Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) unveiled its latest initiative, the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP), marking a significant shift in local immigration strategy. Now accepting applications, this employer-driven program focuses on five key sectors, including healthcare, trades, education occupations, law, social services, community and government services, business services, and sales. Unlike its predecessor, the RNIP, this new pilot program empowers designated employers to directly recommend candidates for permanent residency, streamlining the process of attracting and retaining skilled workers in the Thunder Bay community.
