Canada has demonstrated continued leadership in global humanitarian efforts. On World Refugee Day, Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Immigration, outlined a comprehensive initiative to welcome 20,000 refugees by 2026, with 12,000 individuals to be resettled from Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Additionally, the government has committed $50.4 million in support to UNHCR over a four-year period to address the unprecedented global displacement crisis affecting 123.2 million people. This measured approach reflects Canada’s ongoing commitment to protecting vulnerable populations, particularly women, LGBTQI+ individuals, and those displaced by regional conflicts, such as in Sudan.
