Many families are being reunited in Canada through the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), and this number will likely exceed the target set for 2022-2024. Under the immigration plan, Ottawa had aimed to bring in 25,000 parents and grandparents this year under the PGP and then raise the target to 28,500 new permanent residents next year. According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) statistics, for the first seven months of 2022, Canada is expected to welcome 29,091 new permanent residents under the PGP.
