On February 23, 2023, the Government of Canada resumed biometrics collection for in-Canada temporary residence applications. Applicants who apply for temporary residence (visitor visas, study and work permits and extensions) on or after February 23, 2023, must provide biometrics results. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) made a temporary policy change on July 15, 2020, to exempt those applying for temporary residence in Canada from having to provide biometrics. This decision was taken due to service closures and disruptions across Canada at biometric collection locations.
