Canada strengthens protection for temporary foreign workers

The Government of Canada has imposed stricter penalties for employers violating the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) regulations. The maximum fine per violation has tripled to $45,000, up from $15,000, and program bans can now extend to five years. Additionally, employers face per-worker penalties of $15,000 for each affected individual. Between April and September 2024, authorities conducted 649 inspections, resulting in $2.1 million in fines and 20 employer bans, demonstrating the government’s commitment to maintaining program integrity and worker safety.
