Canada’s healthcare sector has experienced remarkable growth over the past quarter-century, with the workforce more than doubling since 1998, resulting in the addition of 898,000 jobs. Despite this impressive 114.8% growth rate – double the pace of other sectors –significant challenges persist. The aging workforce remains a pressing concern, with 17.9% of health workers now over 55, a slight improvement from the 2018 peak of 19.6%. Immigration has emerged as a crucial solution, with newcomers increasingly filling vital healthcare roles and helping to maintain workforce sustainability.
