Statistics Canada’s latest Survey of Employment, Payrolls, and Hours reveals minimal change in payroll employment for April 2025, with a slight decline of 6,200 positions following decreases in February and March. Despite this trend, average weekly earnings increased significantly to $1,297.44, representing a 4.4% year-over-year growth. While the manufacturing, accommodation, and food services sectors experienced declines, the health care and social assistance sector saw notable gains, adding 10,800 new positions. Simultaneously, job vacancies decreased by 3.2% to 501,300, marking a 15.4% reduction compared to April 2024.
