The City of Greater Sudbury has introduced two groundbreaking immigration initiatives: the Rural and Francophone Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP/FCIP) programs, with approval from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Following the success of the previous Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) program that welcomed 2,700 new residents, Greater Sudbury became one of only two Canadian communities selected to implement both programs. The initiatives, developed through extensive consultation with over 300 stakeholders, target ten priority sectors across both programs and aim to address critical workforce needs. The city has already received 525 RCIP and 45 FCIP candidate allocations for the year.
