A new report by the Institut de la statistique du Québec (ISQ) reveals that immigrants in Quebec are significantly more likely to hold university degrees than non-immigrants. Based on 2021 census data, 44% of immigrants aged 25 to 64 have a university education, compared to just 25% of non-immigrants. Among non-permanent residents, this rate rises to 58.6%. The report attributes this to Canada’s selective immigration policies that prioritize higher education. As immigration drives population growth in Quebec, it also plays a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the province’s overall education levels, especially amid a declining non-immigrant population.
