According to the latest 2026 QS World University Rankings, four Canadian institutions have earned positions among the world’s top 100 universities. McGill University has advanced to 27th place, surpassing the University of Toronto (29th) to claim the position as Canada’s highest-ranked academic institution. The University of British Columbia continues to demonstrate academic excellence at 40th place, while the University of Alberta maintains a notable presence at 94th place. McGill’s advancement can be attributed to its remarkable performance in key assessment areas, including sustainability initiatives, graduate employment outcomes, and academic reputation metrics, achieving an overall score of 88.9 compared to Toronto’s 88.5.
