The Temporary Public Policy for Out-of-Status Construction Workers in the Greater Toronto Area has been expanded until January 2, 2024, or once a total of 1,000 primary applicants (including all their accompanying family members) receive permanent residency – whichever happens first. Subsequently, this new temporary public policy acknowledges the valuable economic impact of foreign national construction workers in the GTA who have lost their status and are working without authorization. This public policy is designed to bring stability and greater protection for individuals making positive contributions to the Canadian economy by meeting regional labour market needs. Simultaneously, this public policy seeks to protect these workers’ rights as they are particularly vulnerable due to their undocumented immigration status.
