New Brunswick has secured a significant increase in its immigration allocation, now set to receive 4,250 permanent resident nominations in 2025 — 1,500 more than previously announced — all through the Provincial Nominee Program. This strategic move, achieved through negotiations with the federal government, aims to address critical labour shortages in key sectors, including health, education, and construction. In return, the province has agreed to resettle 400 asylum claimants over a two-year period, with their consent, supported by over $14.1 million in federal funding through the Interim Housing Assistance Program. The plan has received strong backing from business and community leaders, who emphasize the need for skilled workers. Small businesses report labour shortages as their top concern, reinforcing the importance of these additional newcomers. Provincial representatives will soon meet with interested asylum claimants already in Canada to support their relocation. Settlement agencies will help with housing and employment integration, ensuring a smooth transition.
