On July 22, 2021, the Government of Quebec implemented new requirements for spouses of applicants of the Quebec experience program. Starting July 22, 2021, the new rule came into effect and requires de facto spouses or spouses of applicants applying for permanent selection under the Quebec experience program to demonstrate minimum proficiency in spoken French, corresponding to Level 4 or its equivalent. The province also provided a transitional period of one year to let spouses of applicants have enough time to continue learning French. These instructions are not applicable to the spouses of foreign temporary workers who held a valid work permit on July 21, 2020, as well as the spouses of Quebec graduates who completed a study program on December 31, 2020.
