Canadian academics face unprecedented challenges when applying for US government grants, as they encounter politically charged questions about their research focus. A new questionnaire screens projects for topics like diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), environmental justice, and gender ideology stemming from recent executive orders. The Canadian Association of University Teachers, representing 72,000 staff across 125+ institutions, expressed alarm over these ideological screening measures, particularly given that US funding bodies like the National Institute of Health contributed approximately $57 million to Canadian research projects last year.
