After the introduction of the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021, the Ontario College of Trades, which is now called Skilled Trades Ontario faced significant changes to the trades registration system in Ontario. As of now, Skilled Trades Ontario does not operate on a membership model. Only the information for applicants practicing compulsory trades will appear on the Skilled Trades Ontario Public Register. These applicants will have to possess a valid Registered Training Agreement, Provisional Certificate of Qualification, or Certificate of Qualification to practice a compulsory trade in the province.
